Papaw Tim

Well my friends, my 30-day challenge is coming to an end. My last post for this project will be done tomorrow. For my last memory blog (for this project at least) I am leaving you with a serious one. For no particular reason, I've been thinking a lot about my papaw Tim. I hope you enjoy this memory, for it's one that I will always hold dear.

In November of 2006, my grandpa Tim passed away from lung cancer. Honestly, when I look back, I didn’t know him nearly as well as I thought I did. This fact still occasionally upsets me. Everyone that knew him spoke so highly of him. I remember at his viewing and funeral, hearing so many stories of a grandpa that I never knew. The important thing is, I know that he was a great man. The memories I do have of him are common ones, but good ones. One of my last happy memories happened about a month or two before he got really sick. He was going through chemotherapy at the time, so when he was home he was typically sleeping. Well, my mom, grandma, and I were just getting back from shopping. I have a thing for stuffed animals, and had found a small lion that I had to have, so of course my grandma got it for me. When we got back, grandpa was napping in his recliner, so as a joke, I tucked my new lion under his arm. Grandpa probably slept with him for a couple of hours before he woke up and realized it! He laughed about it. It was great to hear him laugh because it had become a rarity for him. Still to this day, I sleep with that silly lion. His mane is matted, there are stains here and there on his fur, but I wont give him up because of the connection I make between him and my grandpa.
For Halloween last year, I dressed up as papaw Tim. (He was a farmer, if you can't tell:)
